A cozy ranch setting, small-town neighbors, the uplifting magic of the holidays, and a Texas-sized love story make this brand new Christmas Tree Ranch novel from America's First Lady of Romance, New York Times bestselling author Janet Dailey, the perfect read for fans of Diana Palmer, Robyn Carr, RaeAnne Thayne, and anyone who can't get enough Hallmark Christmas Movies.
After her divorce, Ruth McCoy is eager to trade her children's painful memories for new holiday traditions. But Ruth has a whole new set of distractions when fate brings the man she once loved together with the son he never knew he had...
Life has thrown Judd Rankin some tough turns, and he's startled by the feelings he still has for Ruth. Though the successful rancher knows better than to chase old dreams, he doesn't mind lending the struggling single mom a hand. And when Judd sees Ruth's teenaged son's interest in his custom saddle business, he's happy to let the boy help him build the harness for Branding Iron's Christmas sleigh. Besides, the kid reminds Judd of the young man he once was. A man who believed anything was possible...
Powerless to deny the growing bond between her son and Judd, Ruth knows it's only a matter of time before her secret is discovered. But will the revelation shatter the tender feelings between her and Judd—or turn out to be her family's greatest gift?

The latest ghostwritten outing under the name of the late bestseller Dailey (1944–2013) is a cookie-cutter small-town contemporary. Recently divorced Ruth McCoy moves home to Branding Iron, Tex., and gives up on finding love, with good reason: “Her first love had gone to prison. Her second had been killed. Her third had turned out to be an abusive monster.” Instead, she’s focusing all her energy on giving her three children a holiday they’ll never forget. But it’s only so long before fate throws her back into the path of rancher Judd Rankin, her first love, who, unbeknownst to him, is also the father of Ruth’s eldest child, Skip. Judd still has feelings for Ruth, but he’s sure she wouldn’t want to date an ex-con who broke her heart. When Skip takes an interest in Judd’s saddle making business, however, Judd is happy to take the boy under his wing. This mentorship leads Judd and Ruth to spend more time together and their romantic tension mounts. But how will Judd respond when he learns the truth about Skip? Branding Iron in December is quaint and cozy, and the family-oriented plot will please Dailey’s diehard fans, but the characters are one-note and the beats play out predictably. Beyond name recognition, there’s not much to make this stand out.
