Art Almanac is a monthly briefing on national art news, reviews and exhibitions. Since 1974, Art Almanac has proudly published the most comprehensive gallery exhibition listings in the country. Facing Modernity • For a regional city of fewer than 50,000 residents, Shepparton has pulled off a remarkable cultural coup. Currently on view at Shepparton Art Museum are thirty-seven works by some of the defining figures of European modernism, never before seen in Australia.

Tony Garifalakis × Hari Koutlakis • In the concurrent exhibitions at Adelaide’s Hugo Michell Gallery this August, two Greek-heritage artists use a process-based practice to explore pattern, design, and impact that carry through the two gallery spaces. In the larger room, Tony Garifalakis’s Endism (doom sessions) features a mass of works on paper, while in the smaller space, Hari Koutlakis continues the structured approach with a striking black-and-white installation.
